What scares Baby Boomers about Gen Y?

baby boomers generation yGeneration Y (the current generation) can scare most people that call themselves a part of the baby boomers generation. This is because generation Y members are able to complete tasks much more quickly than the boomers and the former also have higher expectations and always seem to be desirous of getting a new thrill in life. Furthermore, baby boomers are afraid of generation Y’s casualness both in terms of lifestyles as well as dressing and even communication habits.

There are actually five different very real fears that trouble the baby boomers generation. These are worth looking at in a little bit more detail.

First of all, baby boomers are afraid of new technologies that are continuously evolving and which can stump most boomers who cannot hope to keep pace with these changes as does generation Y. In fact, baby boomers are only able to do simple things such as emailing and also sending and receiving text messages.

Yet another fear that troubles virtually every baby boomer is that they fear that they may easily be kicked out of their jobs on account of the fact that generation Y has members that are more skillful as well as also more knowledgeable. But, these fears can be overcome by learning to become respected senior leaders of the community to whom the younger generation will turn to for some sound advice.

A majority of boomers are fearful about the fact that they might seem too dumb to the younger generation. This is however a fear that has affected each succeeding generation; so, there is nothing much to worry about on this account.

Baby boomers are also fearful that they will be considered too pessimistic. This is because most people look at boomers and notice the lack of optimism in their approach. Being creative can help solve this problem.

Last but not least, the one real fear that affects all those who are part of the baby boomers generation is that they all seem to be fearful about change. Because modern technologies are so advanced and constantly evolving, boomers are unable to keep pace as does generation Y. This is also a fear that causes the boomer to feel more isolated than they should.
